“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity.” ~ World Health Organization

I’m a North Carolina mom of three (all girls) and a wife. I’m doing my best to lead my family through a healthier lifestyle. I  love my family, food, photography and writing. I’m also trying to do what’s best for the our environment and humanity, because I think the natural world is fascinating, beautiful, amazing and powerful. I’m doing my part to be the change that I want to see in the world.

Let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food. ~ Hippocrates, Father of Medicine, 400 B.C.

I fully believe in a holistic lifestyle. Our entire family has benefited over the last couple of years, since we’ve become more mindful of the food we eat. I love whole, seasonal, local, organic, free range and pastured foods. I like to prepare meals the old fashioned way, farm to table, home cooked from scratch, as often as possible. I believe in eating a wide variety of foods. I don’t think restricting foods is a good idea, but we generally try to avoid processed and junk foods.  I like to try new foods often. It’s fun to buy and prepare foods we’ve never eaten before and I love to surprise my family.

This blog is a way for me to work through thoughts and ideas and occasionally rant about some of challenges (minor annoyances really) we face for being health conscious in America and a chance for me to share what I’ve discovered about the benefits of living a holistic lifestyle. I think America has been misled in terms of what is healthy and what real food is. Some of the most common, general beliefs are simply outdated.

To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right.  ~Confucius
